What I Learned, Values I Developed...
STAND UPI have been bullied in my life before so I know how traumatic it can be to come to class everyday and feel as if you are being jugged for everything that you do. In my class I made sure that I did everything in my power to create a positive space with lots of encouragement. I actually received several comments from some shyer students saying I helped them engage in conversation and speak up because they knew it would be encourage and complimented. Many times we indirectly bully and are unconscious as to the impact we are leaving, unaware to how they truly take the "joke". I wanted all the students in the class to feel comfortable in their learning environment, because as I learned through the course and my own experience you do better when you feel confident in class. I ensured that during group activities nobody was isolated and collaboration skills of the class had actually increased as well.

Values and AcceptanceYour values will constantly be growing as you develop but a solid foundation is important to have, especially when working to become a leader. You must respect all the students in the class with no persuasion. Through the course there was an emphasize on how to treat those you are leading and how to detect bullying. We were introduced to the idea of microagressions (insults hidden by the attempt to be a compliment) and I became observant of all comments that were directed to other individuals in class. At the end of this course I would say my values have changed, as I was inspired by some students in the class as well as I saw potential within myself to really make a change. I was surprised with how hard I worked and how I went out of my way to impact these kids. I respect everything that teaches deal with daily and value hard work because I am truly aware of the skills and time it requires to make a difference.
